Crash grew up immersed in music as the son of radio DJ Dan Steele. His earliest memories include wearing oversized headphones, listening to The Beatles, spinning his first Led Zeppelin record, blasting Queen on 8-track, and rocking out to Black Sabbath on his Walkman. High school introduced him to Hip Hop, Van Halen, and 80’s hair bands, while college and Columbia House Records grew his appreciation for singer-songwriters and expanded his massive CD collection.
Though he didn’t pick up an instrument until later in life, Crash’s influences shaped his musical identity. Jimmy Buffett became his “spirit animal” and sparked his love of Trop Rock and beach-inspired music. James Taylor nurtured his respect for singer-songwriters, John Denver opened the door to country, and Bob Marley instilled his belief that “everything is good, everything is fine.”
During COVID, Crash began performing vocals with a neighbor on guitar. Realizing he was meant to share music with others, he soon added cajon and harmonica to his sets. In March 2023, he bought his first guitar and formed Crash and Cross. After his partner moved away, Crash dedicated himself to the instrument, and within a year he was gigging solo and landing his first show at Flinchy’s Train Wreck Deck in Camp Hill, PA.
With rich baritone vocals that blend country grit and soulful depth, Crash draws comparisons to Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Jelly Roll, and Darius Rucker. His voice, paired with his heartfelt delivery, creates an immediate connection with audiences.
In 2025, Crash took his sound to the shores of Key West, Florida, performing at some of the island’s most iconic venues — including Kaya Island Eats – The Backyard Bar, Surly Siren Saloon, Viva Argentinian Steakhouse, Hog’s Breath Saloon, Hank’s Hair of the Dog, The Chart Room, and Margaritaville. Playing in the heart of America’s island music capital, Crash connected with audiences who share his love for laid-back vibes, storytelling, and singalong favorites. The experience, highlighted by an unplugged performance at the historic Chart Room—a legendary stage once frequented by Jimmy Buffett and other island greats—deepened his connection to Trop Rock and the coastal Americana sound that defines his music today.
Today, Crash performs regularly across Central PA & MD as well as NC & FL, as a solo act and with Crash and Cross alongside guitarist Dave Garry (“DG Cross”). His sets are an eclectic mix of Trop Rock, Americana, and crowd-pleasing classics, always infused with his passion for connecting with audiences. Currently, he is writing and producing his debut album, Liquor Cabinet, which promises to blend his storytelling, coastal vibes, and love for timeless music.
